The PA Turnpike has submitted their third application to toll I-80 to the Federal Highway Administration. We need our supporters to write FHWA Administrator Victor Mendez and U.S. DOT Secretary Ray LaHood. Tell them:
- Adding tolls to a federal public highway is double taxation.
- Allowing states to toll interstates sets a dangerous precedent for transportation funding solutions.
- Tolling Interstate 80 will cripple the entire Commonwealth economy, not just the businesses along the I-80 corridor.
- The Turnpike Commission’s application has been denied twice, little has changed since their prior tolling attempts.
- The state legislation, Act 44, which authorizes the Turnpike Commission to apply for I-80 tolling, was never vetted by the citizens and businesses of Pennsylvania. It was proposed and passed without any public hearings.
